National Stalking Awareness Month:
Stories,
Tips, Resources
Stalking is a
frustrating, terrifying and potentially deadly situation
that affects an estimated 1.4 million people a year;
mostly women. Though celebrity cases get national
attention, most victims are ordinary folks who know
their stalker and have had a prior relationship with
them, either through business, dating, domestic
partnership or marriage. On today’s show, Crime
Prevention Specialist Susan Bartelstone interviews
well-known radio and media personality Valerie Smaldone
who is a two-time stalking victim, once by an obsessed
fan and then by a good friend and colleague. Her
experiences and how she courageously resolved both these
painful situations are inspiring to hear; and stay tuned
for some effective defensive tips and national resources
for information and support.
