Continuing with the theme of healing from violence, abuse or trauma using non-traditional methods, Crime Prevention Specialist Susan Bartelstone’s guest this week is author Lisa Lockwood, who healed from her battle scars by making life choices that challenged her and enabled her to find her inner warrior. Physically abused by her father, emotionally abused by her first husband, Lisa charted a unique path to mental health by going from beauty pageant contestant to soldier, to undercover narcotics detective and SWAT team cop. Her book Undercover Angel: From Beauty Queen to SWAT Team tells the story of how she reinvented herself, as she calls it, to a place of happiness, self-confidence and inner peace. Today, she describes herself as the person she was meant to be: a loving, adventurous, nurturing, driven and passionate lady who just happens to know how to storm a crack house. This might not be your path, but the lessons she recounts are important and hopefully inspirational.
