Paradise: Only the Strong Survive
Continuing with the theme of hope and change, on this
week's show Crime Prevention Specialist Susan
Bartelstone speaks with former bad guy, drug dealer and
bookie Wayne Gurman (now actor, writer and law-abiding
citizen) and good guy William Lappe, former NYPD
detective (now writer and film director), about how to
find paradise. A Bronx Paradise, that is, and believe me
it's no walk in the park. In the film, Wayne details his
criminal lifestyle from 1984 to 1999 when he was finally
(!) arrested and finally turned his life around. Shot
guerilla style on the streets where it all took place,
Wayne describes the film as very violent and very
funny—like his life. You wouldn't have wanted to have
known him then but you sure do now. And, no, William
Lappe wasn't the cop who arrested him. Susan's also got
tips on staying safe in shopping mall parking lots and
some really weird police reports; so it'd be a crime not
to listen.
