3/14/09 - National
Coalition Against Domestic Violence
Domestic
Violence is a worldwide epidemic affecting every
country, every community, every race, religion, ethnic
group, age and sex and there are many different aspects
to it. Today, Crime Prevention Specialist Susan
Bartelstone talks with Rita Smith, Executive Director of
the National Coalition Against Domestic Violence (NCADV),
one of the largest and most prestigious organizations in
the field, about the services it provides for victims
and about how the issue of domestic abuse figures in
divorce and child custody cases. We’ll also be talking
about the controversial subjects of (supposedly) false
claims of abuse by one parent in order to restrict
visitation rights and the Parental Alienation Syndrome,
where one parent, usually the mother, is accused of
attempting to alienate a child from the other parent.
Stay tuned for a list of important resources including
programs that provide free cosmetic reconstruction
surgery to disfigured victims.
