Celebrity artist DAVID ILAN is creating a portrait from 100,000 individual dots (or points)—each one representing a person who has been raped or sexually abused. Up close, the dots don't look like much; but from afar, you see a portrait of a beautiful, confident woman who has overcome and grown. To kick off Sexual Assault Awareness Month, Crime Prevention Specialist Susan Bartelstone interviews David about his drawing and website, www.pointswithpurpose.com, which has become a supportive haven where survivors can use their real name or an alias and talk about their attack (many for the first time), their pain AND their recovery. Internet forums are one more proven tool in the healing arsenal and here, no one is alone in the struggle.
