Is your child
(or someone you know) in a physically and/or emotionally
destructive dating relationship? Love isn’t supposed to
hurt but abusive dating relationships are at an all time
high, and reaching epidemic proportions in teens between
the ages of 13-19. In fact, 1 in 3 girls and 1 in 5 boys
will have been in a physically abusive relationship by
the time they graduate from high school. The
implications of these destructive relationships are
far-reaching in terms of continued violence in adult
relationships, and for society at large. And,
unfortunately, today’s teen culture makes these
relationships appear normal, when even celebrities, like
well-known singer Rihanna, are subject to them. This
week, Crime Prevention Specialist Susan Bartelstone
interviews abusive dating relationship expert Dr. Jill
Murray about how parents can recognize the signs that
their teen may be at risk and what to do about it. You
might pick up some tips for YOURSELF as well?
